Greetings from the Principal

Welcome to the Lincoln East High School web site in Lincoln, Nebraska. East is a 9-12 high school with a comprehensive curriculum. Enrollment is approximately 1500 students. We are located on a beautiful campus of 39 acres with athletic facilities and a city park. Our building opened in 1967 with several renovations and additions since that time. We are in the planning phase of a $24,000,000 renovation. Actual work will begin in late spring, 2008. Our staff is comprised of 120 certificated staff members and many support staff, all of whom are student-centered in their approach to education.

The students and staff work to build upon the tradition of academic excellence that has always been a part of our school. East students do very well academically as well as excel in activities, yet we are continually looking for ways to provide opportunities for ALL students to experience success in a safe and supportive environment. Increased student achievement with a focus on improved oral communication skills will continue to be our school improvement goals.

Each member of the teaching staff is involved in a Professional Learning Community. A community is composed of teachers who teach the same or similar courses. These teams of teachers meet one hour each week during the school day to study student performance data, share successful teaching strategies and develop common assessments. Professional Learning Communities seek to answer the questions: What do we want each student to learn? How will we know when each student has learned it? How will we respond when a student experiences difficulty? How will we respond when the student already knows it? (DuFour)

In addition, East offers students academic clubs, student interest clubs and athletic activities. East High has won the Nebraska State Speech Championship 24 of the last 31 years; the teams were runners-up the other 7 years. In 2007, East earned the Heartland Conference All-Sport trophy, which is awarded to one high school whose athletic performance in all sports ranks above all others in the conference.

The student body is academically focused; 80% of our graduates pursue college degrees. This year we have 14 students who are National Merit Scholarship semifinalists; one student earned a perfect score on the PSAT. One East student also earned a perfect ACT score last spring.

We are fortunate to have an active parent community that is extremely supportive. We invite you to find out more about this wonderful learning environment at Lincoln East High School ěHome of the Spartansî by paying us a visit.
