Continuum of Services

General Education Class
Students enrolled in these courses are independent learners who may benefit from assistance in Resource Class.  Some student modifications (room, curriculum, testing) may need to be made according to the student's individual needs.

Consultation Only
These students are independent learners who do not require assistance provided in the Resource Class.  Minor room and/or curriculum modifications may need to be made according to the student's individual needs.

Resource Class
This class offers students individualized study skills time with academic support and instruction based on the individual needs of students. Students identified as receiving services through the Special Education Department may enroll in Resource Class.  A student will receive 5 (five) elective credits upon successful completion of the class requirement each semester.

Co-Taught Class
These classes are designed to be the same as general education classes, but with the support of a special education teacher.  It provides a transition that allows students to move from special class environments to more inclusive (general education) learning environments.  The general education teacher is the content specialist.  The Special Education teacher is the instructional specialist.

Co-teaching may be offered as needed in the following general education classes (but is not limited to):

Special Education Classes
Courses in this part of the program provide comprehensive curriculum adjusted to meet the individual needs of students in academic, behavioral, and vocational areas of study.

High School (Mentally Handicapped:Mild, Mentally Handicapped:Moderate
Mentally Handicapped:Severe/Profound)
Classes (Reading, Functional Math, etc.) that meet the graduation requirement following the specific curriculum, but are presented at a reduced pace with more individual attention and more time for individual understanding of the material.  These classes are designed to meet the individual interests and needs.  Students may also be recommended for appropriate general education classes.

High School (Cross Categorical)
These classes (Domestics, Recreation/Leisure, Adaptive PE, etc) continue to provide training and practice in domestic, community, and recreation/leisure skills as guided by the student's IEP.  Vocational activities at job sites in the community are added to student schedules based on individual interests and needs.

Experiential Learning (VOICE)
This class is open to 18-21 year-old students and is held and meets in the community.  Domestics, Community, Recreation/Leisure skill training continue as determined by the student's IEP.  While job exploration continues, it is hoped that the student will graduate with a paying job in the community.

Behavioral Needs
       Resource
This program is designed to meet the basic academic and behavioral needs of students who experience limited success in regular or special education classes.  Emphasis on desired behaviors embedded in the core academic subjects (English, Math, Reading, Science) as well as in separate specific activities.
