Attention Incoming 2017-2018 Spartan 9th Graders!

Welcome to Spartan Nation!

We want to take a minute to tell you how excited we are that you will be at East High next fall. Many of you have expressed an interest in participating in our athletic programs next year. This note is to catch you up on our year so far and make you aware of some opportunities that are available for you prior to entering East High next fall.

We had a great fall with our athletic teams and are in the midst of an outstanding winter season as well. Girls Cross Country brought home the State Runner Up trophy and the softball team not only qualified for the State Tournament, but played four games, falling just short of the title round.  The football team also went deep into the playoffs, losing in the semifinals to the defending state champions on their home field. Already this winter, the wrestlers qualified 13 individuals for the state meet and the boys and girls swim teams will have 26 athletes in the pool along with 4 girls diving at next week’s State Meet. The Spartan basketball teams continue to excel, with both boys and girls teams being consistently in the Top 10 most of the winter. The boys won city and conference titles with a 7-0 conference record. Not sure we can match the excitement of last year’s Girls State Championship run, but the girls seem up for the challenge. And the spring season looks to be just as exciting!

One of the first things we would like to introduce our potential future student athletes to would be the East High weight room and our strength and conditioning program. Any 8th grade athletes who are interested in getting started in the weight room are invited to attend an orientation session to get acquainted with some of our coaches and to teach them to lift properly and safely.  We feel strength training is a huge advantage for both our male and female athletes and if you are interested in getting a step up on competing on a high school level, this is a great opportunity to check it out.  Our coaches and our Sports Performance specialist will be in the weight room on March 6th and 8th starting at 6:00 PM. We encourage you to join us for one of these sessions. The door on the south side of the building and farthest to the east (Door 19), will be open. This door leads straight down the back hallway of the gym and to the weight room. We will have people and signage there to help direct.

A couple of other quick reminders: beginning the first week school is out, we will offer clinics in a number of sports. These clinics are run with instruction from our high school coaching staffs. Summer clinic brochures will be available online very shortly on the East High website and the paper brochures should be in the schools by early April.  We would encourage the incoming 9th graders to get involved if their sport of choice has a clinic listed. You will receive more info this spring about fall start dates, etc. until then, GO SPARTANS!
