Daily Announcements for March 27, 2017

MONDAY, MARCH 27, 2017

Good morning! It's the commencement of a new school week and time for Word of the Week, Spartan Nation! This week’s word of the week is submitted by Mrs. Staswick and her student teacher, Ms. Allen. This week’s word was chosen partly in recognition of April Fool’s Day next Saturday, because it’s a fun one. So this week’s word is DEFENESTRATE. Defenestrate is a verb that means “to throw someone out the window.” Stay tuned tomorrow for the etymology or, in other words, the origin of the word DEFENESTRATE.

Girls basketball players not out for a spring sport will start spring workouts TODAY. Meet in the south gym balcony.

AP English Students: Dr. Staples-Farmer is having an AP Test Prep Boot Camp during 4th quarter for both Lang and Lit students. You can participate in small group sessions before or after school or just participate through Google classroom. We'll review multiple choice and essay writing strategies. Sample test materials and student exemplar essays provided. Stop by for more information: Room 017.

In 2015 we had a strong turnout of students willing to donate their hair to Children with Hair Loss, a non-profit organization that provides human hair replacements at no cost to children facing medically related hair loss. Due to student interest, we’re bringing it back in 2017! If you are interested, and have at least 8 inches of hair to donate, please see Ms. Dugdale in room 018. We’ll have an event at the spring pep rally with professional stylists who will cut and style your hair for free. More details will be available when you sign up.

Late registration for AP exams is open from until APRIL 5th. The link is the same as before. Reminder there is now a $50 late fee per exam. See Ms. Harder or Melanie in the main office with questions
