Electronic Use Policy

UPDATED Electronic Device Policy (Effective March 30, 2009 – June 4, 2009)

  1. This pilot policy will be evaluated at the end of the school year.

For the purpose of this policy, the following shall be considered an electronic device:

  1. Cell phones.
  2. Ipods or MP3 players.
  3. Gaming devices such as PSPs, Gameboys, etc.

*Devices such as pagers, radios, boom-boxes, two-way radios or walkie-talkies, and/or any other electronic item as determined by the school administration are NOT allowed in the building at any time without prior approval.

POLICY:  Student use of Electronic Devices is prohibited during the school day (7:51 AM – 2:55 PM {2:06 PM on Tuesday}) with the following EXCEPTION: Use of electronic devices IS allowed during the student’s assigned lunchtime in the Cafeteria and Commons ONLY. 

This does NOT include the B-Wing, concourse, media center, junior and senior halls, or classrooms in the C, D, F, or G Wings.

Students are subject to the following disciplinary consequences if they have an electronic device that is VISIBLE or IN USE during an unapproved time or location:

  1. Immediate confiscation of device by staff member.  Failure to comply with this request will be considered a violation of LPS Responsibilities of Students, II. A: Willfully disobeying any reasonable written or oral request of a staff member, or the voicing of disrespect to those in authority.
    1. First offense:  School administration will return the device to the student at 3:15 PM � pending the availability of the student�s administrator.�
    2. Second offense: Student will be assigned a detention by the administration. The school administration will return the device to the parent/legal guardian.
    3. Third offense: Due to repeated violation of school policy and failure to comply, a student-parent-administrator conference will be held at school to determine appropriate consequences (such disciplinary action may be, but is not limited to; in school or out of school suspension, after school and lunch detention, or loss of open campus privileges). The school administration will return the device to the parent/legal guardian.

 

NOTE � Teachers continue to have the discretion to allow personal listening devices for students as they see fit for their classroom.
